The Secret Life of Smithdown Road

These photos are but a few from "The Secret Life of Smithdown Road", a project commissioned by The Museum of Liverpool. This diversity of privately owned shops here is amazing, and also the speed with which they can open and close. The area is a hub for immigrants and students alike and the two feed off each other. Parts are in decline, and other bits seem to be gentrifying. It is wonderful to see so many truly unique shops in a country where almost every high street is dominated by the same players. All in all, it is fascinating.
